3) Pro-Fin Linishing Bar

Used for preparation of rough surfaces such as castings or steel jobs with surface rust prior to polishing. Can also be used to produce satin or brushed effect finishes.

Linishing Bar can be used on wood for smoothing or removal of paint or varnish.

Linishing Bar is supplied in sealed polythene tubes in 120, 180, 240 and 320 grades and feels like a hard rubber. 120 is the coarsest and 320 the finest.

Linishing Bar consists of carefully graded abrasive, carried in a safe water-based adhesive to stick it to the mop in a process called 'heading up'.

Because the product is water-based, it is IMPORTANT that the bar is not allowed to dry out and set. Always seal the bars after heading up to stop evaporation and do not allow to freeze, or store near heat.

Choice of abrasive grade will depend on the roughness of the surface to be polished, the appearance of finish required if left as a satin finish, and the material being worked. As the Linishing Bar abrasive cuts very quickly, care should be taken with softer metals such as aluminium castings to avoid excess metal removal. 240 grade bar will usually be coarse enough to start with on such jobs unless the component is deeply pitted or corroded. In this case start coarser using lighter pressure on the mop and work down through progressively finer grades until the required finish is achieved. On harder materials such as steel, especially if the surface has been pitted with rust, 120 grade bar used with heavier pressure will produce faster results, followed by finer grades.
