Pro-Fin Professional Quality Polishing Compounds

Your complete step by step guide to achieving the perfect finish.

Preparation of the polishing mop

New mops will produce lots of fluff and strands of fabric when you head up for the first few times. Use a 'SURFORM' tool or even a house brick to trim or wear away excess loose strands. As this can be a messy job, a work coat is advisable.

face.gif (837 bytes) Pro-Fin Linishing Bar is transferred to the mop by friction heat melting the carrier adhesive and sticking the abrasive to the cloth in the mop in effect producing a flexible grinding wheel.

To apply the bar, turn on the polisher and dab the bar onto the mop until the adhesive is seen to melt and transfer to the wheel or mop. Leave to set for a couple of minutes, depending on temperature and then repeat the process several times until the mop is fully coated. Apply the bar around the edges as well, particularly if you wish to blend radii smoothly.

When the mop is coated, leave to set fully before using. When ready for use, the periphery of the mop will feel quite hard on the surface.

This should only take a few minutes in warm conditions, longer when cold. Leaving the spindle running for a few minutes after heading up will help speed the setting process.

However, when heading up new mops it is advisable to wear a simple face mask if you are bothered by dust and fluff.
