As with the automotive industry, boats are very ‘high ticket’ items that require all the metalwork to have the best finishing and look.
Stainless steel is chosen to give anti-corrosion properties and of course look good. Not only the handrails but also davits, hooks, moorings, gauges, steerings, portholes, lanyards, masts and cranes.
The hulls of boats are often finished with a gelcoat which is a flexible polymer sprayed onto the composite material. These gelcoats are applied during manufacture and also refurbishment maintenance. They are sanded and polished after application.
