Non-Woven Abrasives

Non-woven abrasives products are based on a three dimensional “web” of synthetic fibres, usually polyamides (nylon), into which abrasive particles are impregnated and bonded.

The resulting materials have an open structure throughout which the abrasive is uniformly, consistently distributed.

This gives products which are highly conformable, give a reliable, consistent finish throughout the life of the product, are resistant to clogging and may be used dry or lubricated with water or solvent/oil systems.

Abrasive grains used are usually aluminium oxides and silicon carbide. They are all graded materials under international specifications such as FEPA (Federation of European Producers of Abrasives) or ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and produce a range of finishes from coarse through to very fine.

Non-woven material may be converted into many different finishing tools, such as belts, discs, lap mops, ventilated buffs, flap wheels, convolute and unitized wheels and hand pads.
